The Japan-America Society of the State of Washington (JASSW) is seeking a Paid Marketing Intern to support our communications and outreach efforts. This is a great opportunity for a student or early-career professional who is passionate about U.S.–Japan relations and eager to gain hands-on experience in digital marketing, content creation, and community engagement.
Founded in 1923, JASSW promotes mutual understanding and friendship between the people of Japan and Washington State through programs in business, culture, education, and public affairs. We are a trusted convener and community hub for individuals and organizations committed to strengthening U.S.–Japan ties.
Position Summary:
The Marketing Intern will support communications and outreach efforts that promote JASSW’s programs, events, and community engagement—while also helping maintain our member and donor database using a CRM tool. Key responsibilities include updating the website, preparing social media posts, designing e-newsletters, managing contact records, and tracking engagement metrics. The intern will work closely with the Executive Director and Program Manager and play an important role in strengthening JASSW’s public presence and brand.
This is a paid internship. The position is expected to work 3 days a week (24 hours/week) during the summer, with adjusted hours during academic quarters as needed.
This role is ideal for a creative, detail-oriented individual eager to gain hands-on experience in marketing and communications within a nonprofit setting with an international mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update content on the JASSW website using WordPress
- Draft, design, and schedule social media posts (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Assist in writing, formatting, and distributing monthly e-newsletters
- Create digital flyers and promotional graphics for events using Canva or similar tools
- Monitor analytics and engagement metrics across platforms
- Support event promotion and documentation (e.g., photography, social posts, post-event recaps)
- Assist with organizing and archiving photos, files, and digital assets
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a college-level program in marketing, communications, public relations, design, or a related field
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail
- Familiarity with platforms such as WordPress, Canva, and Mailchimp (or willingness to learn quickly)
- Comfortable using social media platforms professionally
- Basic design sense and creativity
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Interest in Japanese culture, U.S.–Japan relations, or nonprofit work is a plus
- Japanese language ability is a plus
Compensation & Benefits:
- Part-time paid internship (24 hours/week, with adjusted hours during academic quarters as needed)
- $20-21 hours, depending on experience
