The Japan-America Society of the State of Washington (JASSW) is seeking a highly organized and dynamic Program Manager to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about U.S.–Japan relations and enjoys creating meaningful experiences through programs and events.
Founded in 1923, JASSW promotes mutual understanding and friendship between the people of Japan and Washington State through programs in business, culture, education, and public affairs. We are a trusted convener and community hub for individuals and organizations committed to strengthening U.S.–Japan ties.
Position Summary:
The Program Manager will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of a wide range of JASSW programs and events—including fundraising dinners, business seminars, networking receptions, and our signature education initiative, “Japan In the School.” This outreach program introduces Japanese culture, language, and customs to K–12 students across Washington State, helping to foster early cross-cultural understanding and global curiosity.
This role reports directly to the Executive Director and supports collaboration with the Board of Directors, who help shape the organization’s vision and strategy. As part of a small but mission-driven team of fewer than ten, this position offers the opportunity to take full ownership of projects and play a key role in carrying out JASSW’s mission.

Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and manage in-person, virtual, and hybrid events from concept to completion
- Collaborate with internal staff, Board members, partners, and volunteers
- Coordinate logistics such as venue booking, catering, A/V, guest lists, and materials
- Manage event budgets and maintain accurate records
- Develop promotional content in coordination with the communications coordinator
- Track program data and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Represent JASSW at events and in community outreach
- Coordinate school visit schedules for the “Japan In the School” program in collaboration with the Education Committee Chair and participating volunteers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in program management or event planning
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills in English, with native-level fluency required
- Ability to problem-solve and stay adaptable in uncertain or changing situations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort with digital tools (e.g., Canva, WordPress, Microsoft Teams), with the ability to quickly learn new platforms such as CRM software like Neon One.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events
- Interest in or knowledge of Japan, Japanese culture, or U.S.–Japan relations is a plus
Compensation & Benefits:
- Full-time, non-exempt position (up to 40 hours/week)
- Salary range: $65,000 – $68,000 annually

- Hybrid work schedule (in-office presence required three days a week)
