Neighborhood Grants are investments that help build sustained local impact and inspire increased partner volunteerism with nonprofit organizations that work in our communities. Through this unique program, The Starbucks Foundation invites Starbucks partners to nominate a local organization in their community.

We received a $1000 grant to use for our education programs from the Starbucks Foundation: Neighborhood Grants Fund! We thank our members at Starbucks for advocating the Society and our work!
Our education programs include America In the Schools (AIS) and Japan In the Schools (JIS). The goal of these programs is to cultivate a sense of cultural awareness in children to foreign customs and value systems. Our Japan in the Schools program reaches students in Washington State with immersive presentations about Japanese customs, history, language, and culture. Each year, we reach around 120 schools and 3,000 students annually. During COVID, we moved our entire program to a virtual format to continue to be a resource for schools and the broader community. Its sister program, America In the Schools, introduces American school life in Japanese using real visual and audio aids. Both programs are free resources available to the general public! Outside of our two main educational programs, we also have a number of other programming, including our Japanese Language Festival, holiday card exchange program, and other international exchange events with schools in both Japan and the US!
Thanks to Starbucks and all of our supporters for helping to keep the Society and our programming funded for the future!
