65th Annual Golf Tournament – A Swinging Success!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 65th Annual Golf Tournament at The Plateau Club on July 21st, 2025! This is our second year hosting the tournament at The Plateau Club, and participants enjoyed a sunny Monday with a pleasant breeze blowing throughout the day – making for a perfect day to golf!

The day started with Registration and lunch by the clubhouse, where our 70 golfers could relax, eat lunch, practice some swings at the Driving Range, and enjoy the putting and chipping contest before the tournament officially began at noon. Between the various contests happening, players could also enjoy some lunch. Unlike in previous years where we had one lunch sponsor, this year, we had three lunch sponsors, so players had a choice amongst a salmon belly bento from Seattle Fish Guys, a cold chicken soumen from Terry’s Kitchen, and a karaage fried chicken bento or vegan bento from Doskoi Catering. With their bentos, players also received a spam musubi from Poke Fresh and assorted chips and cookies generously donated by Terry’s Kitchen! On top of the food, we also had a huge selection of beverages thanks to donations from PepsiCo, Sapporo, and Ito-En/Distant Lands Coffee!

After shotgun, the players went to their designated starting holes and the tournament began. There were opportunities for the players to join in on-course contests like Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin – 2nd Shot, and Hit The Green – with contest winners announced during the banquet later that evening. Volunteers were stationed at many of the contest holes, equipped with beverages and shade, for players to rest and chat with.

After rounding all 18 holes of The Plateau Club, players came back to the clubhouse to enjoy a nice Italian buffet and await the results of the tournament. In the meantime, there was also a silent auction and raffle that everyone could participate in, where people could win Mariners tickets, dining gift certificates, and a new golf bag, and the grand prize, a roundtrip international main cabin ticket between Seattle and Japan through Delta Air Lines!

We had around 100 people join us in the evening, and with plenty of good food and drinks flowing, many enjoyed the bustling evening as contest, raffle, and silent auction winners were announced. One favorite moment from the evening was when Mr. Sung Jeon, a representative of Delta Air Lines, highlighted Delta and the Society’s long partnership and their Centennial year this year (just two years younger than the Society!), and drew the winning raffle tickets to fly on Delta Air Lines. The penultimate prize of a pair of roundtrip domestic tickets ended up in the hands of none other than Hideo Suganuma of Kohtoku Enterprises, Inc., our Golf Committee Chair, and that was met with a warm and well-deserved round of applause from the room. The evening ended with some closing words from Misa Murohashi, the Society’s Executive Director, about our next events, including the Society’s largest fundraiser – the annual Holiday Dinner Celebration & Auction!

We thank everyone who joined us at The Plateau Club and we cannot wait to see how next year’s tournament will be like!

Special thanks to thank you Perry Garvey, James Muir, and Masahiro Nakashima for the photos!
